Hi, everyone!

Welcome to the web newsletter of Christ the King Lutheran Church!  We are excited about the opportunities we have to share the joy of growing in Christ's love!

Our worship times are Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30 am.  Power Hour (Sunday School) for ALL ages is Sunday at 9:15am.

This weekend we are celebrating the Epiphany 2.  The color is green.  You can look up the readings on www.biblegateway.com

First Lesson: Isaiah 49:1-7

Psalm 40:1-11

Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9

Gospel: John 1:29-42

We encourage everyone to be part of our educational hour, which is at 9:15am on Sundays.  We will have our classes for toddlers through adults!  Confirmation will held in the youth room.  Our Teen Bible will meet in pastor’s office!  Pastor Unger is teaching the adult class, “Between Services with Pastor Unger.”  As you can see we have opportunities for everyone to grow in the study of God’s Word – hope to see you then!

THIRD ANNUAL KREWE OF NOAH PARADE—The whole congregation is invited on Sunday, January 27th following the Congregational Meeting.  Gather your wagons, bikes and beads for our Krewe of Noah parade and meet us in the parking lot.  All, please bring any donations of beads for the children to use.  Have your “floats” already decorated.  If need be, we will have extra decorations in the fellowship hall.  Plan to come during Power Hour and help the children decorate their “float”.  Remember the costumes.  Hot dogs, chili, punch and king cake will be provided to everyone after the parade.  Hope to see you there!

PERSONAL HYMNALS—If you ordered an Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal for home use, you may pick it up in the church office.  Bookplates have been inserted.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING—Please plan to stay after the 10:30 am worship service on Sunday, Jan. 27th for the annual Congregational meeting.  The meeting will be brief and is called primarily for the discussion and approval of the budget for the coming year.

PASTOR UNGER OUT OF TOWN— The Ungers are visiting Ron’s mother in the Chicago area and will return Monday night.

FAREWELL & GODSPEED—This is Lynne Smith’s last Sunday with us as our Choir Director.  She and Mike are moving to the San Francisco bay area.  We will miss them both!

NEW CHOIR DIRECTOR NEEDED—As a result of Lynne’s relocation, the congregation will need a new Choir Director ASAP.  If you or someone you know is interested in the position, please notify either Gerald Butts (the chair of our Worship Committee), Sandra Barnes or Pastor Unger.

“BETWEEN SERVICES WITH THE PASTOR” - The informal discussion group  meets in the conference room, 9:15-10:15 each Sunday.  We are currently discussing the Book of Matthew.  The planned discussion to be led by Dr. Jim Wee and Pastor Unger on “Evolution and Genesis” has been postponed until February 10th, 17th and 24th.  This class is intended for adults, teenagers and confirmands.

MENTORING MINISTRY—We are looking for adults who feel called to a special ministry to our young people.  We are seeking adults who would be willing to be a mentor to our young people.  A mentor is someone who is willing to be an important person in the life of this young person, and through that relationship help nurture this young person's faith.  One area where mentors can help is through Camp Hope, but mentoring is not limited to Camp Hope.  It is a beginning of a relationship.   If you would like to be part of this very special and important ministry, please come to an informational meeting on Feb. 24th after the late service.  If you have any questions, please contact Sandra.  Thank you for support in our ministry to our children!

HYMNAL DONATIONS—All of our members are encouraged to have a personal copy of the new hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship.  And please think of donating one or more to the church as well.  Order forms are in the narthex.
