Hi, everyone!

Welcome to the web newsletter of Christ the King Lutheran Church! We are excited about the opportunities we have to share the joy of growing in Christ's love!

The weekend of September 22 and 23, we are celebrating the 17th Sunday after Pentecost. The color is green. Worship is on Saturday at 5:00 PM, and, Sunday at 8:00 and 10:30 AM.  You can look up the readings on Bible Gateway  or on the Vanderbilt University Lectionary by clicking here. The readings are as follows:

First Lesson: Amos 8:4-7

Psalm: Psalm 113
Second Lesson: 1 Timothy 2:1-7
Gospel:
Luke 16:1-13

BAPTISM AND HOLY COMMUNION—Our Sunday morning adult group, “Between Services With the Pastor,” is currently discussing the sacraments. You are invited to participate in the informal discussion on Sunday mornings at 9:15-10:15 AM in the Conference Room.

Loving God,
Your promises hold true.
When we are afraid, help us turn to you
for comfort, guidance, and peace. Give us confidence as we live and walk in your faith.
Embrace us with your love through all of our journey.
In Jesus' name.

Amen

CONFIRMATION CLASSES – resumed on Sunday, September 9th. We will have a meeting for confirmands and their families at 9:30 to go over the requirements and expectations for confirmation.

LISTEN TO & LEARN OUR NEW LITURGY—You are invited to take a CD copy of the new liturgy to listen to at home or in your car. Although there are three musical “settings” on the CD, we will first learn and use Setting Two, which includes tracks 12-21. Many thanks to John Yent for making 50 copies for us!

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY -- Our shawl ministry is a fine gathering of pleasant, artistic and motivated women.  We invite you to attend our Thursday sessions at 12:30 PM.  Your talents as either a knitting or crocheting "demon" will be appreciated.  So you can't knit or crochet?  Dorothy Boyd will teach you.  If you are interested in being involved in another way, donations of yarn would be appreciated.  Our shawls are going out to appreciative recipients almost faster than we can produce them.  Now we need elves to assist us in or efforts.  Drop in for a pleasant and meaningful visit.  Much love and concern is in all those stitches.

WOMEN OF THE ELCA-the 20th Annual Convention of the Women of the ELCA will be held on Sept. 14-16, 2007 at the Heartland Country Inn and Retreat Center in Brenham, TX. Registration has been extended to Monday, August 13. Forms are available in the Narthex for anyone interested. (Toni and John Dufrene can personally vouch for the Heartland Country Inn. It's a comfortable, lovely and peaceful location.)

CARE NOTES-Care Notes are available in the display racks on the desk in the Narthex. There are several new booklets for adults, kids, and teens. The booklets are short and easy to read. Stop by and pick one up today for yourself or to share with someone else. Take one-and take heart. Give one-and give hope.

E-MAIL NEWSLETTER– If you would like to be included in the e-mail version of our newsletter please make sure that Sandra Barnes has your correct e-mail address. The best way to do this is to e-mail her from the address to which you wish to receive your newsletter requesting to be added. Sandra’s address is SbarnesAIM@charter.net. Also, please make sure that your email filter will permit this address! Thank you!

NEW MEMBERS — A number of people have expressed an interest in joining our congregation. If you are considering membership or would simply like to know more about our congregation, please notify the pastor.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION QUESTIONNAIRES / PREPAREDNESS  — If you haven’t filled out an emergency information questionnaire since last October, please do so. We are requesting this so we can keep track of one another during emergencies, including hurricane evacuations. The forms can be found in the Narthex.  In addition a link,
Evacuation Information and Emergency Shelter Sites, will be maintained on the resource page of the web site -- just in case.

Garden group meets on Mondays - anyone interested in helping is welcome, please contact Phyllis DuSang for more info!

LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE (LDR) - A variety of help is still being offered by LDR. For spiritual care and counseling, in addition to Pastor Unger, you may call either Rev. Walt Ehrhardt or Dr. Lorraine Rathman.  Help in gutting or rebuilding a home is also available.  To find out more, and for contact information, please visit www.lsss.org and chick on "Disaster Response".  You can also visit  www.ldr.org.

CTK CHOIR RESUMES PRACTICE—The CTK Choir will resume choir practices on Wednesdays, at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary. Newcomers are always welcome.

Speaking of music – we are also looking for musicians to be part of our worship experience! If you can play an instrument and would like to serve through music, please let us know!

If you have any prayer requests for the bulletin, or any announcements for the bulletin, please get them to the office by Wednesday. Thank you!  J
